THE WARDROBE

The Wardrobe is an historic building that houses the Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum. This holds the collections belonging to these now amalgamated British Army regiments that currently form the 1st Division of The Rifles Regiment. The building and its hidden garden occupy a glorious tranquil corner in one of England’s finest settings.

The wardrobe history

Set within the beautiful Salisbury Cathedral Close, this historic venue has its roots in the 13th Century. By the 16th Century the house had become a store for the Bishops robes and an administrative base for the Bishop's household; an arrangement that led to its unusual name of ‘The Wardrobe’, first recorded in 1543. Today the building houses a Museum that displays the collections of the Royal Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiments.
